Series Book - Future of Body, Body of Future
The theme of 'The Future of the Body' has been an exciting topic for both academics and
the public for 20 years. Euthanasia, life extension, and organ transplants have caused controversy
due to ethical issues. A book entitled Future of Body, Body of Future focuses on youth, health,
happiness, and the body.
Chapter 1 diagnoses the relationship between technology and the body from the perspective of
Merleau-Ponty’s body phenomenology. Chapter 2 describes the possibility of emotional AI.
The author discusses whether artificial intelligence is a second human being and whether there is
a way to overcome the conflict between nature and machines. Chapter 3 describes the use of body
prostheses and emphasizes prostheses' duality. Chapter 4 presents the concept of 'parahuman',
which refers to a wild coexistence in a state of confusion. Chapter 5 analyzes The Lost Boy and
explains why the author had to use the science fiction genre to express his thoughts. Chapter 6
tracks the gaming history and describes the body of users participating in virtual reality games.
Chapter 7 points out a mixture of pessimistic and optimistic views about the future body and then
uses Greg Bear's Blood Music to present a new outlook. In Chapter 8, the author describes inventing
an emotional robot and outsourcing the emotional labor to robots. The author argues that the social
community will begin to collapse as soon as outsourcing emotional labor to robot begins to take
place. Chapter 9 tracks future body changes through differences between rich and poor, race, and
differences between locals and foreigners. Chapter 10 describes the future of the body as well as
medical science. In Chapter 11, the author carefully examines the possibility of human evolution as
a new species in the future with the science fiction film Transcendence. The author also argues that
if change is possible, a new horizon of humanity should be explored.
